  • All the women were locked in their cells in the last episode - apart from Kath and Merle, obviously...

Lisa is worried that the tape will be discovered before they can get back into the rec room: Alice points out it's unlikely to be disturbed on the bookshelves. Merle finds the video tape just before the books are cleared, and puts it on her bed when Kath tells her they will take the opportunity to fix Spider. Kath glues up the lock of Spider's cell and posts a box of mice through the spyhole. Kath finds the tape and though she doesn't know what's on it, she realises it may be important. Mervin explains to Delia why the tape might help Ann and the others get their jobs back. The women are allowed to return to the rec room, which has been stripped bare. Rita tells the women they may still be able to find the tape, as Joan does not know she doesn't have the right one, so they only have to find where the boxes of book are stored. Kath tells Rita she has the tape but will only hand it over if Rita will become top dog again and arrange for her to have the shop back. Lorelei will only agree to be interviewed if Meg will promise that Joan will not lose her job, as she owes her for bringing the tape that helped her recovery. Brumby passes the tape to Mervin, who agrees to smuggle it out, but not to her suggestion that he should bake a cake to hide it in. Rodney searches Mervin as he leaves and finds the tape, but lets him go when he claims it belongs to Joyce and is something to do with their wedding. Joan phones reception and Rodney asks her if she played the tape she confiscated before destroying it. Joan rings the gate guard to get him to stop Mervin, but he gets through in time. Ann tricks Walters into coming to her house and Phil Clayton forces him into agreeing to appear on the programme. Joan finds out from the Minister that the TV programme is going ahead and goes to see Lorelei: she is not allowed to talk to her but finds out about Lorelei's condition for appearing on the programme from her doctor. Everyone watches the programme and the women listen in (sound only) on the radio. Meg tells her story (straight to camera as if she's doing the Queen's Christmas broadcast), naming Craven as the person chiefly responsible. Officer Walters tells his version of the story of what went on at Blackmoor. Rita takes advantage of her immunity from charges and pushes Rodney face first into a wall. Kath steps down and Rita is voted in as top dog. Ann is phoned by the Minister and asked not to make a statement to the press until he talks to her. The Minister tells Joan he has to reinstate Ann, but Joan threatens him with the media if he will not make her Deputy. Joan does return to visit Lorelei to thank her, but Lorelei is cold towards her and tells her not to come back. Ann insists that she will only come back with Meg as Deputy and Marty and Joyce reinstated. The Minister tries to insist that Joan has to stay as Deputy but Ann says she will not work with such a "vicious self serving misfit". The Minister appears on TV to announce Ann's return and that Lorelei should be treated leniently at her trial. Joan contacts Mr Hosking to ask him to take Zoe to visit Lorelei. The Minister tells Joan she can't be Deputy Governor and she accepts his offer of leave of absence to sort out what she will do in future. Meg, Marty and Joyce return to Wentworth.
